2019 RODS Champion

Mike Labbate

Mike is a 2 time RODS Champion, but he is not new to winning championships.  He is a multi time Super Pro Champion at Albuquerque Dragway.

He started drag racing at 16 years old, as soon as he could drive.  His father Bob Labbate, owned Albuquerque Dragway for 25+ years, so Mike was at the track a lot growing up.

2019 was Mike first full year in the Firdbird.  With the 526 Cu In BAE Hemi and twin 88 mm turbos, a Jerry Bickel chassis, and Turbo 400 transmission.  Mike ran a best of 4.28 at the final race.  In 2020 he plans on gunning for the newly set track record of 4.13.

With crew chief, Wayne Mac Leod on board the Labbate crew racked up 2 wins and a runner up finish.  He won 9 out of 10 rounds.

About RODS

The Real Outlaw Door Slammers started in 2009 as a local Pro Mod association for racers in the Southwest.  Primarily running at Albuquerque Dragway, most teams are from New Mexico and West Texas.  Running 4 to 5 races each year, a champion is crowned at the end of each season.

Entries are limited to left hand steer cars with working doors, aka Door Slammers.  Each engine combination is allowed with any power adder.  Many teams run Nitous Oxcide, Blowers/Super Chargers, or Turbos.

The cars compete in the 1/8 mile and the quickest 8 cars qualify for each race.  A standard 8 car pro ladder is used for eliminations.
