Round 1

Robert Costa 4.396 @164 mph def Mike Chambers 5.180 @138 mph

Chambers is off the line first with a great light, but Costa finally makes a good run and a full pull.  Low ET of the race so far.  Chambers' turbo car is no match for the big nitrous motor.

El Ray Trujillo 4.859 @ 148 mph def Mike Labbate 4.978 @ 147 mph

Labbate leave early and the race is over before it began.  Trujillo steps up and betters his qualifying run by more than a tenth.

Art Cordova 4.851 @149 mph def Ricky Daniels 5.208 @ 139.58 mph

The Outlaw 8.5 car of Daniels is off the line first but just can not compete against the big tire car.  Cordova makes a solid pass and is off to the semis.

Lyle Byrum 4.639 @ 158 mph def Jacob Villegas (No Time)

After some confussion on the starting line, Byrum make a good pass right down the middle.  He will face Costa in the Semis.

Round 2

Art Cordova 4.730 @ 173 mph def El Ray Trujillo 4.856 @ 149 mph

Both cars leave together but the nitrous car gets the best of the blown car.  Art is in the finals again, looking like a good start for the 2013 and 2014 Champion.

Lyle Byrum 5.751 @ 145 mph def Robert Costa (No Time)

Costa leaves before the tree is activated and gets no time.  Byrum gets lucky as he went up in smoke at the hit of the throttle and shook the tires.  Blown vs Nitrous in the final.  Will it be the former champ or the new comer?

Final Round

Lyle Byrum 4.527 @ 160 def Art Cordova 4.746 @ 147 mph

Byrum has a great light and never looks back.  Best pass of his career in the finals.  A great way to end it.  The former champ Cordova will have to wait for another race to get back to the winners circle.  Congrats to the new comer on his first race and his first win

Round 1

Mike Labbate 4.909 @ 145 mph def Todd Case 6.942 @ 90 mph

Art not able to make the call, so Case an Outlaw 8.5 car takes his place.  Labbate gets a easy win as the 8.5 tire gets loose.

Jacob Villegas 5.204 @ 138 mph def Shelby Kennedy 8.757 @ 65 mph

Kennedy is another alternate filling in for Trujillo who has mechanical problems.  The small block turbo is too much for the pro charger and will move on to the semi's

Charlotte Schmidt 4.744 @ 149 mph def Joe Gallegher 5.652 @ 117 mph

Charlotte filling in for Costa who is also broke makes her best pass of the weekend and gets past the qualified 8.5 tire car.  She moves into the semi's and will face the small block turbo car of Villegas

Lyle Byrum 4.568 @ 162 mph def Mike Chambers 5.362 @ 132 mph

Both drivers with good lights but the turbo car is no match for the blown car.  Byrum continues his winning streak and is in the semi's and will face another Turbo truck.

Round 2

Charlotte Schmidt 4.804 @ 131 mph def Jacob Villegas 5.022 @ 150 mph

The alternate gets another big win and is headed to the finals.  I think this is the first alternate to go to a RODS final.

Lyle Byrum 4.532 @ 164 mph def Mike Labbate 4.711 @ 153 mph

Byrum runs another 4.5 pass and makes it look easy.  He is in his 2nd final in a row.  Labbate makes his best pass of the weekend but it isn't enough to fight off the blown car.

Final Round

Lyle Byrum 4.416 @ 165 mph def Charlotte Schmidt (no time)

Charlotte can't get the car into reverse after the burnout and motors down the track.  Byrum is loaded for bear and lays down a great single to take his second win of the season.

Round 1

Jacob Villegas 4.871 @ 155 mph def Ray Trujillo 4.883 @ 147 mph

The 4th and 5th qualifiers.  This should be the closest pair and it is.  One hundreth of a second difference and one hundredth of a second in ET.  .021 of a second difference at the finish line.  Just about a tire length and the turbo gets the win.

Robert Costa 4.4164 @ 171 def Art Cordova 4.6347 @ 148 mph

Close in reaction times, but the 2015 Champion gets the best of teh 2014 Champion.  Cordova makes his best run of the weekend but it isn't enough.  Cost moves on to the semi's

Lyle Byrum (no time) def Dave Hildebrand (no time)

In a strange staging battle, both cars leave before the tree activates, but Hildebrand leaves first.  Byrum moves on but will not have lane choice as he has no time.

Mike Labbate 4.661 @ 153 mph  def Charlotte Schmidt 6.193 @ 78 mph

Labbate makes his best pass of the weekend and it is enough to get past the blown car as Charlotte has trouble and has to lift early.

Round 2

Lyle Byrum 4.431 @ 160 mph def Mike Labbate 4.779 @ 133 mph

Labbate with a big advantage off the starting line but gets close to the center line and has to lift.  Byrum will be in his 4th consecutive final round this season since joining RODS.

Robert Costa 4.679 @ 170 mph def Jacob Villegas 4.743 @ 157 mph

Costa gets a big lead off the starting line as never trails.  The turbo car makes it best pass of the weekend but it isn't enough to close the gap.  Costa in his 1st final of the season.

Final Round

Robert Costa 4.695 @ 124 mph def Lyle Byrum 5.094 @ 105 mph

The final should be a great race as the #1 and #2 qualifiers face off.  But it is a little disappointing.  Costa out a head shakes the tires and lifts while Byrum loses a blower belt.  Both cars shut off at about the same time and coast across the finish line.  Costa gets the best of Byrum who had not lost a round yet this season.

Round 1

Art Cordova 4.874 @ 155 mph def Jacob Villegas 5.397 @ 149 mph

This should be the closest pair and it is.  But the turbo doesn't have enough to get past the Nitrous car of Cordova. Cordova is off to the semi's.

Mike Labbate 4.501 @ 162 mph def Gordy King 4.837 @ 160 mph

Labbate runs a career best run and is really starting to get the truck running well.  His times have been consistently quicker and quicker all weekend.

Lyle Byrum 4.331 @ 168 mph def Mike Chambers 5.300 @ 113 mph

Chambers gets a slight starting line advantage.  Byrum puts up a big number.  Yesterday this would have been a new track record.  He is looking good today and has already been crowned the 2016 RODS champion.

Robert Costa 4.250 @ 173 mph def Ed Jaquez (No Time)

Jaquez is unable to get the car into reverse after doing his burn out and drives off the track.  Costa lays down another track record smashing the old record by almost a full tenth.

Round 2

Lyle Byrum  4.301 @ 168 mph def Mike Labbate 11.275 @ 37 mph

Two races in a row these two face each other in the Semi finals.  Labbate over powers the starting line and blows away the tires.  Byrum run a career best and is a monster pass in the heat of the day.

Robert Costa 4.322 @ 175 mph def Art Cordova 5.420 @ 103 mph

Cordova is first off the line with a big advantage but does wheel stand and breaks the wheelie bar.  Costa puts down a nice pass but will loose lane choice in the final.

Final Round

Lyle Byrum 4.819 @ 161 mph def Robert Costa 5.607 @ 88 mph

The 2016 Champion vs the 2015 champion.  The race that everyone wants to see doesn't happen the way that everyone hopes.  Costa is out of the gate first but gets out 150 ft and makes a right turn almost crossing the center line.  Byrum has trouble and slows significantly.

Congratulations to Lyle Byrum and his crew.  Winning their 1st championship in the first year of competing in RODS.

Also congratulations to Robert Costa and team for a new Track  ET and Speed records.  4.250 @ 178.43 mph.  The ET record was previously held by Shawn Jones (4.341) for 6 years.
